1. TAX RATES — SET UP ONCE, APPLY EVERYWHERE
Taxes → Sales Tax → Add Tax Rate lets you define:
- Country, Area/City, and Authority — exactly where and to whom this tax applies.
- Compound — whether this tax is calculated on top of another already-applied tax, rather than only on the base price.
- Apply to Shipping — whether this rate also taxes shipping/freight charges, not just the goods themselves.
- Active/Inactive status. Once defined, a rate is available to be applied on Sales Orders, Invoices, and POS transactions wherever it's relevant — no re-entering tax logic per transaction.
2. MANAGING SUBMISSIONS — Filing, Tracked to Completion
Taxes → Sales Tax → Manage Submissions tracks your actual filing obligations to each Authority, by Location, Fiscal Year, and Fiscal Period (Filing frequency can be set — e.g. Half-Yearly): Gross Total, status (Pending, Overdue, Completed), with File Tax Return and Mark Return Completed actions right on the list — a real filing tracker, not just a rate table. Submissions break out by country, state/area, and location, so a business filing in multiple jurisdictions can track each obligation separately instead of watching one blended number.

3. YEAR-END FILING — A Dedicated Annual View
Taxes → Year-end Filing pulls together Sales Tax, Submissions, and Tax Settings specifically for annual/year-end filing needs — a single place to review the full year's tax position when it's time for the annual filing, rather than reconstructing it from twelve months of individual submissions.
4. HOW IT CONNECTS TO THE REST OF THE SYSTEM
- Sales Orders / Invoicing / POS — tax rates configured here apply automatically at checkout and on invoices, with tax-inclusive or tax-exclusive pricing and discount-before/after-tax behavior configurable in Settings.
- Chart of Accounts / General Ledger — collected sales tax posts to the correct liability account automatically as sales happen.
- Financial Statements — sales tax liability shows up correctly in your Balance Sheet without a manual adjustment.
5. WHY IT SCALES FROM SMB TO ENTERPRISE
Small business
One tax rate for one area, set up once, applies automatically to every sale from then on.
Growing business
Compound tax and shipping-taxability options match more complex real-world tax rules without custom development.
Enterprise / multi-jurisdiction
Submissions tracked separately by country, state, and location, plus a dedicated year-end view, give a business selling across multiple tax jurisdictions a real, single system of record for every filing obligation.
